Ceramic Crowns

At our Murrieta dental office, your healthy smile is our first priority. We also understand that your appearance is very important to you. After all, a beautiful smile looks great and gives your self-confidence a boost. That’s why we look for solutions like ceramic dental crowns that protect your oral health while enhancing your appearance.

Ceramic Dental Crowns Restore Oral Health

Dental crowns are a type of restoration that fully encases your natural tooth to strengthen and protect it from damage or decay. Damaged teeth make it difficult to eat and speak normally. Crowns, however, have the important job of allowing your teeth to function fully again.

For many years, crowns have been made using porcelain fused to metal. Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns work well, but over time a dark metal line is exposed at the gum line, detracting from your appearance.

Dr. Prais chooses to use ceramic crowns because they are every bit as strong as crowns made using metal. Crowns made using dental ceramic has the additional  advantage of mimicking the look and color of a natural tooth, so our crowns blend seamlessly with the rest of your teeth. Because our crowns are created entirely of ceramic material, there is no unsightly metal to show through and detract from the beauty of your smile.

Uses for Ceramic Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are usually thought of as being purely functional because. And it's true - they do serve the important purpose of protecting your oral health by strengthening weak and damaged teeth. However, aside from being strong and durable, ceramic is a beautiful material that looks natural and can be colored to match your natural teeth perfectly.

So aside from restorative applications, the natural beauty of ceramic crowns allows us to use them as a cosmetic dental treatment to change the appearance of your tooth. Used in this way, ceramic crowns provide a number of cosmetic solutions:

  • Covering a tooth with a large amalgam filling
  • Correcting the appearance of severely stained teeth
  • Altering the shape of uneven teeth
  • Fixing gaps between teeth

Ceramic Crowns Technology

Intraoral Scanner

We have an in-office scanner eliminating the need for most impressions of the mouth. Instead, the mouth is scanned with a small wand and makes a digital copy of the mouth. This means no more gooey impression material and increased precision of fit of crowns and appliances due to the accuracy of the digital scans.
